What We Like: Great for photographers

What We Don’t: Quite heavy and hipbelt is sold separately

If you are a photographer, look no further. The Peak Designs Everyday Backpack is our Best EDC Pack for Photographers of 2021, and here is why. The internal organization comes with FlexFold dividers to keep your cameras and lenses separate and organized. The bag’s material is waterproof to keep your gear safe from light rains, and the external straps and pockets make carrying larger equipment like tripods or other large items a breeze. You get all of this while carrying a very attractive bag and still having room for a laptop or tablet.

Do you enjoy taking photos? Or more specifically, do you enjoy carrying every single lens you own, so that when the perfect picture presents itself, you aren’t accidentally left with a macro lens when what you really need is a 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR? Fine, I had to google those strange numbers and letters because, not surprisingly, I am not a photographer. That said… I can appreciate when a backpack caters to photographers, and that is exactly what the Peak Designs Everyday Backpack does.

Storage and Organization

As mentioned, this pack is excellent for photographers. It uses a unique MagLatch system for top access, but the pack also boasts dual zippered side access pockets, which are perfect for storing camera gear. The included customizable, FlexFold dividers make organizing your camera bodies and lenses that much easier while keeping them seperate in order to limit any scratching or bumping. On the inside walls, there are some open pockets for sunglasses or other photography accessories as well.

There is a separate laptop compartment on the back for up to a 15” laptop, your tablet, or documents. On the outside, there are dual water bottle pockets that are large enough to hold a tripod, which could also be held in place by the side compression straps as well.
A very cool feature of the Everyday Backpack are two straps that can be deployed to hold items onto the outside of the pack, like an extra layer or a blanket along the bottom. When not in use, the straps can then be tucked away and are hardly noticeable. Peak Designs has incorporated some very cool features to optimize their Everyday Backpack, and it does not disappoint.

Comfort

The Everyday Backpack by Peak Designs is their second version, and Peak Designs has worked to make the pack ergonomic for the wearer. There is a vented, quick-drying mesh along the backpanel for comfort, and the shoulder straps pivot at axial points. The pivoting makes the backpack more comfortable for a variety of body shapes, which is a great addition. We often see that shoulder straps are slightly overlooked in this style of backpack, but Peak Designs really did their homework and paid attention to the details. The Everyday Backpack also comes with a quick connecting and adjustable sternum strap that can be easily stored away when not in use.

Along the outside of the pack, there are three handles for various styles of carry as well. If you are bored of using the shoulder straps, it makes for easy put down and access. There is also an additional hipbelt, which is sold separately, to increase the overall carrying comfort of the pack. Peak Designs has done an excellent job in the comfort department with version 2 of the Everyday Pack.

Material and Durability

If you are carrying likely hundreds to thousands of dollars in camera gear, you want to make sure a little rain won’t take down your entire enterprise. The Everyday Backpack is weatherproof and is made with a recycled 400D nylon shell that has been impregnated with DWR and is double coated in PU. These fancy acronyms mean that the bag is weatherproof, but it is not perfectly waterproof—so keep that in mind.

The Bottom Line

We really like the Peak Designs Everyday Backpack. It was not a difficult decision to name it our Best EDC Pack for Photographers. The price of $260 is a bit high, but the number of included features and the internal storage options helps to increase the value of the pack. It is very clean and a super nice looking backpack as a nice addition.

The value of the internal organization and built-in quality—for photographers but also as a normal everyday carry backpack—is not hard to miss. Overall, the Peak Designs Everyday Backpack is an excellent backpack for multiple pursuits.
